Special Church Meeting was held on March 7

The Congregational Meeting on March 7 approved the Bylaws (with one amendment), the Safe Congregation Policy, the Program of Needs and recommendation of the BFSG that we remain on site and work toward renovation of the buildings. The final version of the Bylaws is expected to be available for posting early next week.

The following were discussed:

Notes from the Board

As winter begins its turn toward spring I’m seeing nature begin its seasonal changes. Soon it will be raking and planting time and here in the leadership area of FUUSE, things are about to sprout as well.

Since my last writing, we’ve added two key people to our Board of Trustees: Deb Merrick has joined us as in-coming chair and Skip Berrien as member-at-large. Skip also chairs the Personnel Committee. Having finalized a job description for Treasurer, we are close to naming a candidate for that position as well.

At a special meeting scheduled for Sunday, March 7, members will vote on some very important items. The Board has reviewed, and will now ask members to vote on a new draft of our By-Laws as well as a Safe Congregation Policy. A contingent of dedicated volunteers has painstakingly reviewed, edited, and revised both these important documents, and we thank them! We will also vote on the status of the Building Feasibility Study Group’s Program of Needs and recommendations for future physical growth. Later this spring, at our Annual Meeting, the Green Sanctuary Project will present the concept of our becoming an official Green Sanctuary for the vote of our membership.

The Board had its second retreat of the church year earlier this winter during which we took the time to carefully consider our vision for FUUSE. We saw the following areas as those most important for our community at this time:

  • Growing the already strong music program.
  • Becoming a environmental leader in the community

We are very enthusiastic about working to spur growth in these areas so vital to our community.

Before she began her Sabbatical, Kendra left us with two questions to ponder during her absence:

  1. What is going well at FUUSE? (There are many things that have been going well for a while and/or are going well very quietly, this is a good time to notice them!)
  2. What is the deep purpose of this congregation: for you; for the congregation as a whole; and for the world beyond our walls?

These questions will appear in our Order of Service periodically over the next several months and they are posted on the bulletin board of the Sabbatical Committee in the Community Room. We will also establish areas on the walls of the Parish Hall where you can post your ideas and responses. Please utilize them to share your thoughts.
