- Our Wednesday team is Jane Oldfield-Sperman and Deanna Raymond as evening hosts and Frank Heffron and his wife as overnight hosts.
- Thursdays the Berenson family is the evening host and a couple from Christ Church does the overnight hosting.
- On Saturday night Donna Schlachman and Bob Moore do the overnight hosting.
We are grateful to these people and recognize that there will be times when they are unable to host. Paula and Ed Wall, Mollie Allen and Caroline Ruhm are alternate evening hosts who have helped out when needed. Sally and Rich Coleman and Gail Nostrom are available to help when needed for overnight hosting. We would like to build a larger network of alternates to back up the regular teams and more hosts are always needed.
You, too, can volunteer — for an hour — or longer
Additionally, there are some faithful volunteers who are preparing the evening meal on Wed. or Thurs. We always need more help with bringing meals. We also need volunteers to help set up and breakdown the rooms used for sleeping. Stephanie Marshall and Donna Schlachman have helped with this frequently. It only takes about one hour and we really need more hands to make it go faster.
If you want to find out what it is like to be a SIHN volunteer, talk to those who have already, with our deep gratitude, done it. We need volunteers for the weeks of May 10–17, and August 2–9, 2009. Prior to the hosting week look for a sign-up sheet in the Community Room. It will let you know specifically what is needed for that week. Please contact Helen Kruppa if you have a few hours to share or can stay overnight (the airbeds are very comfortable!) Helen’s number is 772-3387 or email her at

During 2008 and 2009, our FUUSE volunteers worked with Christ Church volunteers to staff the temporary home (at Christ Church) for one week for 4 families. During our week the lives of four mothers and six children, ages newborn to 11 years, were made easier due to the generosity of this community. We help clean and set up “bedrooms,” cook dinners, chaperon during the evening hours, and stay overnight in “host bedrooms.” At the end of the week when it was time for the families to move to their next church “home” we helped to put the church school space back in order.
Background checks are required of hosts and there is a short orientation program. Sign on to help and you can be partnered with an experienced host from FUUSE or Christ Church. The Stratham Community Church houses the “day center” for SIHN. Families work with professional staff to develop a plan for independence, and preschool children spend the day. Usually one or both parents are at work during the day and school age children are in school. Regardless of which church is hosting, help is always needed at the Day Center — playing with and reading to the children. Contact Nicolle Casey (775-0980) or Patti Jancsy (650-7721) from Christ Church to learn more about how to become a FUUSE volunteer partner.
